I was talking to a friend recently who is writing a book, and has been a source of support for me as I write and publish my own book. I called ourselves writers, and he laughed, and said, "Well, I wrote a book, but that doesn't make me a writer."
Why not? I love a humble person, but I also love the words of author and editor Sol Stein. He wrote, "A writer is someone who cannot NOT write."
If that's Sol's definition, then I am a writer. I write for comfort, relaxation, and meditation. I write because it fills me up, brings me joy, and is an outlet for the million thoughts that roam through my mind. I love starting with an idea, and then creating characters that I fall in love with. Every character I write about, has a tiny piece of me within them.
And whether one person buys my books or a million, I'm still a writer.
"Every character I write about, has a tiny piece of me within them." - I find this very interesting and wonder if other authors feel that way. Congrats on your achievement Leah!!
Well said Leah! That's the way I feel about making art. Congrats on your book. I hope to see more titles in the coming years. Tina S.
