I receive that question quite a bit. Followed by, "You've been a lot more productive than me during a global pandemic," or, "All I do is binge-watch Netflix."
But if you actually know me, you realize, I haven't handled life better than anyone else. I don't find time to write because my personal life is so organized, my house in order, my bills paid, my laundry clean. I write because I choose to spend my free time in this way.
And really. . . It's all a choice.
My favorite thing to do is to wake up before my household, sit in my sunroom, while my computer and the rising sun warm my legs. The birds sing in the background, and the planes start flying overhead, and I write.
Every person who has made an impact on my life, and each life experience, pours onto the screen in the form of characters, setting, dialogue, and self-discovery. And I breathe, the deepest breathes I'll take all day, and sit in gratitude.
Some people do yoga to feel that sort of peace, or attend worship, or go on a walk with girlfriends. Some people binge-watch a show, or read all the books, or clean their house. But for me? I write.
So there you have it. I don't spend my time more wisely than you or anyone else. We all have the same amount of hours in the day, and we all make choices of how to spend our time.
I write.
